The day after Valentine’s Day….

Businesses nowadays have commercialized Valentine’s Day to maximize profit. Dinner wasn’t a candlelight dinner with rose petals scattered carelessly around. Or with love songs playing softly in the background to enhance the ambience of love in the air. We were ushered to the middle of the restaurant to a table right beside a wooden partition. Not only was the table super small – with no room to rest your elbows; the waiter forgot to pass as the Valentine’s Day set meal menu! What is the purpose of having a Valentine’s Day set meal if you don’t promote them to your customers? =_=”. And walking around the mall after dinner, there was this salesperson who was still trying to sell bouquets of flowers at horrendous prices. Only love-struck guys would spend RM 100 for a bouquet of flowers!! My colleague’s husband sent a big gorgeous vase of white lilies to her office a few days before Valentine’s. We thought it was her birthday, but she laughingly told us that he didn’t want to pay for flowers on Valentine’s Day. Hence, he bought it a few days earlier. For me, I’d rather ask the boyfriend to buy a single rose stalk and give me the rest of the money to buy a pair of shoes :p

However, it was good to know that Valentine’s Day wasn’t so darn commercialize that it turns people off. There were lots and lots of couples around to do a spot of people watching. Girls all decked up beautifully for a special dinner; guys looking like they’ve put more effort into their clothes then the usual shorts and slippers. There were also couples coming for dinner with their children in tow, a group of friends hanging out, and even singles who decided to brave the “love is in the air” atmosphere with an air of indifference and confidence.
Valentine’s Day is not just about lovey-dovey couples to hold hands and go for overpriced Valentine’s day set meals with a bouquet of flowers in hand. Valentine’s Day is about love… love for the important people to your life. And that not only includes the love of your life, but also your family members) and your friends.

Even thought Valentine’s day is over, it’s not too late to show the other important people in your life that you love them. Acts of love should continue on every single day of the year, and not wait to show it once a year.
“Don’t love the one who is beautiful, but love the one who makes your life beautiful.”
